What street(s) did you grow up on?

I grew up on the corner of Helmers St. & Doverside Dr. In an old pre wwll neighbor hood. with houses build up off the ground. Very cool in the summer & warm in winter.My folks had a quarter acre, & my mother had a big garden lots of veggies I used to have to work in it. My neighbor hood ran from Berry Rd on the south, North to Tidwell, East to West hardy & west to Mcgallion. I remember all those little G.I. track homes north of Tidwell Up & down Mcgallion & Bauman, On streets like Innsdale, Wellington, Soren, Charles & Robmore. I thought They were cool, because they were build on a slab, Most of my friends & the girls i dated lived in that area. Our dad's were ww ll vets our Mom's were beautiful stay at home part time working mom's We were products of our environment We were Northside folk. And ALL the kids went to Sam Houston High School.

Do you or your family still live or own your house that you grew up in?

No! I drove through there not long ago, cars all in the yard, & goats running the streets, Not exectly the same, funny how thing change. I don't know who owns it. A handsome young Mexican couple was working in the yard He was digging. what looked like a garden, she was on her knees planting something. Maybe things really don't change that much?

Do you see or hang out with any class mates? Who?

Yes! I see My friend Fred Taylor, We get hall pass's from our wives. And go exploring Texas.
When my `Ol roommate Eugene (Gene) Pavlacka is in town from California, we visit.

What would we be surprised to know about you?

Sometimes, I get carried away
with my own eloquence!

Where was your favorite HS hangout?

sometimes went to winklers or baileys on Irvington, rarely to princess on jensen

List your siblings and year.

I don't remember all their names I'm the youngest of 8
My mother & father had no Tv & apparently no radio!

School Story:

I was trying to use the pay phone,in the hall across from
the auditorium. suddenly the payphone fell off the wall with a great clanking, banging noise. This was very uncool! I didn't want to be accused of breaking the stupid phone, My friend Ronnie P.( we called him funny Ronny, because at the time he wasn't sure which way he was going to go!) wanted to try & fix the phone. My friend Dennis wanted to steal the money that was falling out of it And my friend Fred & Me wanted to "Get outta there". And that is what we did.Great embarassment for me , great laughter for them. For years. Untill we lost track of each other. Funny!!.

What did you want to do or think you were going to do when you finished high school?

Didn't have a clue, went one semester @ what was South Texas Jr. college didn't care for it ,bumed around the country till drafted

What and where was your 1st job? Do you remember how much you were paid?

All through school. I worked for my step-dad. He was a floor contracter, We put the floors in the old Humble building. & some others downtown. Part of American General. Don't remember what he paid me ( not much) But I always had some change & a1947 ford pick-up to drive.

Favorite Quote

" God holds the scale of justice;
He will measure praise and blame;
And the South will stand the verdict;
And will stand it without shame"

Famous or interesting people you've met?

I'v met & photographed, Donnie & Marie, Bill Dana,( Josie Jimmineze The rodeo Cowboy Larry Mahon, Chil Wils, Eddie Albert of Green Acres,( Where was ZaZa when you need her) James Coburn, Vicki Lawerance.All these celebrities were for the most part pretty amenable. Bill Dana was so nice I felt sorry for him, When i found him. he was in a big tent behine the Double Tree hotel on JFK blvd..Where he was doing his program that night for some business group. It was so hot in that tent. I told him about a friend I took fishing, who fail out of my boat way up bedias creek, he got chased back into the boat by a ( what looked like a 14 foot alligator)My boat was only 12 foot. The story was more ellaborate than i'm telling here, But he though it was very funny, & would include it his talk that night. don't know if he did. I did my shoot & had to go.

Ever been on TV? Tell us all about it.

I was on the Paul Bosch friday night wrestling show on TV a few times, I did some freebee's for the Boys Club, And Mr. Bosch (spelling) would mentition My company on the air, Did not generate one penny of business for the studio,

What do you like to do in your spare time?

Someone once said "If your going to do good; You have to do GOOD!!!" Just a couple of miles outside our main gate up the what Bernard B. Fall called in his book" The Street Without Joy". We call it the MSR. Was a small orphanage run by four vietnamess nuns.I talked the warrior's in my group to help, supply food( C rations), Water, cots blankets, toys. some of us was all ways there ( If we were not out doing the army's business), We would be patching leaky roof. Digging water lines, painting, whatever.One day this kid from New York said to me "Hey Streety i heard you Texans were tough", I said i heard you New York boys were tough, So here we were two"Tuff" guys out under a tree shooting marbles with a bunch of little kids!! I still like to help in my spare time. volunteer at church, Take kids fishing, just regular stuff, No big deal, makes you feel good!!
