Kathy #4214  I agree that touching the past is good.  It is what makes us who we are in the present.  Let me know what you see.  Last time I drove down Turner, it had changed so much, I almost missed my house. Do you still live on the north side?  I have lived in Willis for the last 20 years.   I am still working in the Houston Medical Center (40 years).  Thinking about retirement!

Hope everyone is enjoyng the cold wweather and staying warm!!  It has been 32 the last 2 mornings at my house.

I was in Houston this past week end and they are moving right along....on Sam Houston

The  "shacks" are all being taken apart and stapped down to be hauled off,,,They had workers every where Saturday. I had planned on going back and getting some pictures but got sick and never made it back by there. I will shoot an email off the Mr. Summers and Monzon and see how they are doing on getting the kids out of the old build and into the new.

The tearing down of the old building my not be far off  from the looks of it.

Judy

RE:  #4150

Just wondering if you have heard anything from school administrators regarding a new date for tour of the new school and a time to purchase bricks, etc.  Last I saw it was mid-January, but that has now passed.  Just want to be sure everyone stays up to date.

Thanks,

Old Sam Houston is still standing and you can see it online on live cam. Looks like it'll be awhile longer before there are bricks available. Haven't heard about a tour yet for the new school. The live cam is set on top of the new building by the gym, looking into the north side of the building. The cam online address is:

https://app.oxblue.com/open/satterfieldpontikes/samhouston

You can see it daily, and click on the Date/Time, then click on "Most Recent" and it will show you live image of the school.

I look at it everyday to keep an eye on Ol' Sam. You can zoom in and see in the windows of the gym and the classrooms of the main building. You can see how close Downtown Houston is to Sam from that angle.

I plan to see if I can volunteer to help move or pack books in the library, or do something to help. The staff would appreciate it I think, and they enjoy hearing stories from former students. Especially the librarian! It amazed her when I mentioned about the smoking area for students back in '71, out in the courtyard, Powell Memorial.

THANK YOU JUDY MAXWELL AND DIANE GRAYSON COLOBY FOR UPDATES OF OL' SAM.   I TRIED TO PULL UP THE "OX BLUE" WEBSITE TO VIEW THE OLD BUILDINGS BUT I COULDN'T GET PAST THE LOG-IN AND THERE WAS NO PLACE TO REGISTER.  I CALLED "OX BLUE"  AND THE SATTERFIELDTIKES CONSTRUCTION CO.  AN EMPLOYEE OF SATTERFIELDTIKES SAID SHE WOULD LOOK INTO GETTING A SPECIAL SIGNIN USERNAME AND PASSWORD AND CALL ME BACK ON MONDAY, FEB. 4TH.   I WILL BE CONTACTING ALL THE ALUMNI THAT ASKED FOR A MOMENTO OF OUR HIGH SCHOOL.   HOPEFULLY, MOST OF YOU WILL BE ABLE TO COME AND PICKUP WHAT YOU WANT WHEN THE DISTRIBUTION DATE IS SET BY THE PRINCIPAL.

Diane Grayson, you remember a student smoking area, in the courtyard?  '71 was my junior year, and i was a smoker back then, and I remember we picked our own "smoking area", under "the Tree" behind the Drama/Band classroom during lunch times.  I do not recall smoking allowed in that nice Courtyard that was brand new back then in '70/'71 outside the cafeteria?  We're talking almost 50 years ago, so if that's the case, i've lost that memory to 'Father Time'. :)   ...I see you in the yearbook, pictured next to Sheryl Green.  She and i have been friended on facebook for quite a while.  (Her sister Jama and I go back as far as elementary school classrooms).  She's doing great!

SMOKING AREA?  If we had been caught smoking there would have been a line of Coaches giving us swats.

Thanks to all of you for keeping us updated on Sam......and thanks for the link to the cam.  I didn't have any problem getting on to look at the pics.  However, it did not appear to actually be "live" but a daily shot of the progress.  Maybe I need a log on to see it live. But this is a great way for us to keep up.  Thanks again.

Hello Tigers,  I was surprised to find this picture on this site under the Gallery of our Past.  I am not sure who took this picture but it was definitely taken at Burbank Jr. High.  Sheryl Parsons is in the middle and I am on the right side.  The girl on the left looks very familiar but cannot remember her name.  Does anyone on the forum know?

Thank you for your help and have a great week!
